  • 2013 Little East Spring All-Academic Teams

    NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- The Little East Conference office announced its 2013 Spring All-Academic Teams this afternoon. The conference honored a total of 154 student-athletes in its seven spring championship sponsored sports: baseball, men's and women's lacrosse, men's tennis, men's and women's outdoor track and field, and softball.

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eastern Connecticut State University senior third baseman Arielle Cooper (Mystic, Conn.) has become the first third baseman in program history to earn first-team All-America honors when she repeated national honors at that position by the National Fastpitch Coaches’ Association (NFCA).

    ITHACA, N.Y. – A wild finish to the opening game of the NCAA Division III Softball Championships at Doris Kostrinsky Field at Ithaca College benefitted the Western Connecticut State University softball team as it came from behind to defeat the Ithaca Regional's top seed, St. John Fisher College, 5-3.

    NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Eastern Connecticut State University and Keene State College each earned two major awards this afternoon, when the conference office announced the 2013 All-Little East softball teams. Warrior senior third baseman Arielle Cooper (Mystic, Conn.) was named the Player of the Year, while Diana Pepin was tabbed as the Coach of the Year. Owl freshman Mariah Crisp (Greenland, N.H.) was selected as the Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year to complete the major awards program.

Western scored its lone run of the ballgame in the first inning, while Sabith kept the Warriors’ offense scoreless.

    GORHAM, Maine - Director of Athletics Al Bean has announced the hiring of Sarah (Bennis) Jamo as the University of Southern Maine Huskies’ head softball coach. Jamo is the eighth head coach in the 37-year history of the program; she replaces Bonny Brown-Denico, who stepped down this summer after 16 seasons to focus on her responsibilities as USM’s head field hockey coach.

    NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - A New England native who has achieved success playing and coaching at two of the most highly-regarded softball programs in the region is the new head softball coach at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Amy Sasin has been named to succeed Kelly Roy-Sale, who resigned last spring. Sasin served as an assistant coach at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. for three seasons, assisting in all phases of the program. She has also assisted at Oliver Ames High School in North Easton, Mass., and coached in the Westport Youth Softball program.

Based in Lowell, Mass., the Riptide appointed Eastern Connecticut State University head softball coach Diana Pepin hitting coach two months into their three-month summer season after a coaching shakeup left the club in immediate need of an assistant coach.
