NEW ORLEANS – Little East Conference indoor track & field student-athletes swept this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national awards. UMass Dartmouth senior thrower Jared Louf-Woods (Salem, Mass.) was named the Division III Men's Athlete of the Week, while UMass Boston sophomore sprinter Wadeline Jonathas (Gonaives, Haiti) was named the Division III Women's Athlete of the Week.
Jared Louf-Woods let it fly the furthest in the weight throw at this past weekend's Tufts Invitational, and set a PR in the process at 18.83m (61-9.5). That throw shattered his old PR by more than two feet, and is currently the furthest throw in Division III this season. Louf-Woods additionally notched a third-place finish in the shot put, posting a mark of 14.59m (47-10.5).
Jonathas also competed at the Tufts Invitational and recorded the nation's fastest times in the 60 (7.61) and 200 (24.95) dash. She has now dipped below 25 seconds a total of six times in her young career and is close to adding another all-time top-10 mark. Jonathas also won the long jump with a mark of 5.59m (18-4.25), which is third-best in the nation, and helped her team to a victory in the 4×400 with the 15th-fastest time in DIII this season (4:06.56).
Jonathas and Louf-Woods will be back in action Saturday when their teams compete at Springfield College's Maroon & White Classic.
