Little East Announces 2016 Men’s Tennis All-Conference & Major Awards

PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The Little East Conference has announced its 2016 Major Awards and All-Conference teams for Men's Tennis on Tuesday as voted on by the league's coaches. Southern Maine senior Tyler Adams collects his third straight LEC Player of the Year Award after his continued dominance on the court and leading the USM Huskies to its fourth straight Little East Conference Tournament Championship.  UMass Boston freshman Josh Bhasin was named the 2016 Rookie of the Year.

Tyler Adams (Sr., Buxton, ME) led the Huskies to a 6-0 Little East Conference record and an 11-2 record overall.  Adams remained unbeaten through all 12 of his No.1 Singles matches while only losing one set, a 6-7 (0-3) first set and then came back to defeat Western Connecticut's Marco Gobbato in the final two sets 6-2, 6-1. Adams only lost more than three games in a single set only twice.  Adams joined teammate Kyle Curley as the No. 1 Doubles and dominated the competition, going an unbeaten 13-0 for the Little East Champions. Adams enters the NCAA Regional play with 39 consecutive matches at No.1 Singles won, dating back to the 2014 season when Adams started 1-2 and finished on a 14 match win streak. 

Freshman Josh Bhasin (Fr., Tulsa, Okla.) was named the 2016 LEC Rookie of the Year. Bhasin played all season as the No. 1 or the No. 2 Singles player for the UMass Boston Beacons. Bhasin posted a 9-4 Singles record at the No.2 flight, only losing two conference matches to LEC First Team member and LEC Champions Kyle Curley (Southern Maine). Bhasin was also a constant competitor at the No. 1 Doubles for the Beacons with multiple partners, posting a 7-11 Doubles record. 

Southern Maine's second year coach Tim Lacombe was named Little East Conference Men's Tennis 2016 Coach of the Year. Under the leadership of Coach Lacombe, the Huskies marched to its second straight undefeated conference record and an 11-2 overall record to secure an NCAA Regional bid to face Stevens Institute of Technology.
