PAWTUCKET, R.I. – A pair of Little East Conference (LEC) basketball standouts were recognized nationally for their efforts with a spot on the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week for the week ending January 7, 2018. Eastern Connecticut State University senior guard Tarchee Brown (Rockville, Conn.) was named to the men's Team of the Week, while UMass Dartmouth junior forward Nakira Examond (New Bedford, Mass.) was named to the women's Team of the Week.
Brown, who was named to the Team of the Week for the second time in three weeks, averaged 24.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game with a 48.3 shooting percentage (7-of-10 from three-point range) in a pair of Eastern Connecticut (11-2, 3-0 LEC) wins. He became the Warriors' career leader in points of the 78-year-old program in the first half of Saturday's 80-54 LEC victory over UMass Boston, which saw him finish with 18 points, a career-high 16 rebounds, seven assists, two steals and a block. This was after Brown totaled 31 points, six rebounds, five steals, three assists and a block in the Warriors' 95-92 road victory over Amherst College.
The reigning LEC Player of the Week, Examond averaged 24.5 points and 14 rebounds per game while leading the Corsairs (9-2, 3-0 LEC) to a pair of victories, shooting 68 percent (19-28) from the field in the process. She finished with 26 points, 16 of which came in the second half, and 14 boards to lead the Corsairs to a 64-56 comeback win over Southern Maine Saturday. Examond then posted 23 points and 14 rebounds the following day as UMass Dartmouth notched a 76-57 victory over Regis.
