PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The UMass Boston baseball team is ranked No. 8 in the nation in the newly released polls from the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Collegiate Baseball News and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA)/D3baseball.com. Southern Maine among the teams receiving votes in both polls this week.
The Beacons (18-5, 4-0 LEC) were ranked ninth in both polls last week before going 2-0 in non-conference play against Worcester State (11-9, 16-6) and sweeping a Little East Conference (LEC) doubleheader against Western Connecticut (13-0, 11-4). UMass Boston is currently the only team undefeated in conference play, and is riding a seven-game winning streak following yesterday's 11-4 win at Brandeis.
The Huskies (12-6, 3-1 LEC) won each of their three games played last week, taking home a 7-1 victory from Salem State before winning both ends of at LEC doubleheader at UMass Dartmouth by final counts of 8-3 and 2-1. Southern Maine extended its current winning streak to five games following Monday's 13-10 non-conference win against Plymouth State.
