PAWTUCKET, R.I. – The UMass Boston baseball program is ranked No. 1 in the nation for the second straight week in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association/D3baseball.com Poll. The University of Southern Maine is ranked 15th in the poll, while UMass Dartmouth is among the programs receiving votes.
UMass Boston totaled 602 points and 12 first-place votes this week after improving its record to 6-1 through the end of Sunday's action. The lone blemish on the Beacons' record is a setback to then No. 25 Rowan, which moved up to No. 11 this week, which saw them defeat MIT (6-3), St. John Fisher (7-0), Nichols (19-1) and RIT (9-2).
Southern Maine dropped five spots in the ranking from No. 10 after going 1-1 this past weekend to open the 2018 season. The Huskies were edged 12-11 against Wisconsin-La Crosse before taking a 3-2 decision over then No. 24 Salve Regina.
UMass Dartmouth is receiving votes for the first time this season after getting off to a 4-1 start to the year last week. The Corsairs started the season with wins over Worcester State (10-2), Nichols (3-2) and Wartburg (8-3) before splitting a doubleheader with Springfield (1-3, 3-2).
