PAWTUCKET, R.I. – D3Baseball.com announced its 2018 Preseason All-America Teams Wednesday, which features a pair of Little East Conference selections in UMass Boston senior first baseman Chris Fowler (Barnstable, Mass.) and University of Southern Maine sophomore outfielder Dylan Hapworth (Winslow, Maine), both of whom were First-Team selections. Each was a First-Team All-LEC selection last season, and received various all-region honors.
Fowler received honorable mention to the 2017 D3Baseball.com All-America team after batting .367 while collecting 66 hits, 13 doubles, four triples, seven homers and 48 RBIs to go with his 39 runs scored. He led the Beacons to the LEC and NCAA Division III New England Region championships in 2017 as UMass Boston made its second-ever trip to the College World Series.
Hapworth was named a Third-Team All-American by D3Baseball.com to cap off his rookie campaign. He batted .394 over 41 games as a freshman, totaling 63 hits with 14 doubles, four triples, nine homers, 45 runs scored and 41 runs driven in. He led the Huskies to the 2017 LEC regular season title, and runner-up finishes in the conference and NCAA Division III New York Regional championship tournament.
UMass Boston finished the 2017 season with a record of 38-12 and a No. 4 ranking in the final D3baseball.com poll of the season, while Southern Maine went 34-13 and finished the season ranked 18th by D3Baseball.com. Both programs are in the top-15 of the 2018 Collegiate Baseball News Preseason Poll, with the Beacons earning the No. 5 ranking and the Huskies clocking in at No. 11.
